Bored..........

Hey girlies,

with summer finally in full swing and my lack of time off and therefore inability to make it to Turkey, I must say that I find the American summer without the anticipation to go to Turkey rather boring and bland.

There might be a few reasons to this connundrum; one of which is location and the fact that DC has no beaches and another being the fact that other than Yola I really don't know many people but I must admit that I am really really bored.

Besides the bored part, the boring environement is also draining my willingness to do anything usefull so I am in this vitious cycle of non-stop annoyance or lack of productivity. So tell me dearest friends what should I be doing to boost up my situation given that there is no swimming or beaches in near sight ???????

Miss you all hope your summers are in full swing...........

"idris mutlu" at brown

you should see this.

It is amazing. This boy from Siirt has won full scolarship to brown. He is on the cover page of Sabah today...amazing story and just the perfect guy for Brown. I love Brown!

He is the son of a 6 children-family, his dad is a porter and his mom is illiterate. He has finished his primary school by working as shoepolisher and selling "simit"....and now here he is having won the full scholarship to the coolest university in the US...yeahy!

PS: I am very dissapointed by the way they have written about Brown however..."ABD'deki Brown Universitesini kazandi -- He has been accepted by Brown University in the US" as if this is a decent unknown school somewhere in the US!!

cheers.

(PS2: it is in www.sabah.com.tr 25/5/2007's firstpage news.)

Come out, come out where ever you are ????????

Dearests considering the lack of any posts I am assuming everyone is having a quite boring beginning of summer or a rather exciting one with no time at hand.

Which one is it???

Hello brownies from all over the world!
Tanti it was such as good idea to create a communication place for us! I missed you all. When you mentioned about New Orleans trip, my heart made 'cızz' (also 'jazz') suddenly. I remembered of our house, of the broken jakuzi (!), of the drunk nights, of the beeds, jazz..anyways, I hope we get back all together soon at another vacation like that.
By the way Yola, congratulations!!! (a little late though, sorry for that..) is it a he or she ???
Also, a late (I am always late what's happening to me!!) Happy Birthday to all the brownies who had their consecutive birthdays on February, March and April (this sounds like a 'toplu dugun' ama olsun hiç yoktan iyidir!)
I kiss you all and see you again from here,
galya

I love rio!

Sylvia and I just came back from Rio... There are really no exact words to describe this city. It is magical, beautiful, mystic, poor, rich and sexy and most of all it is all about samba and caipirinha (their national drink which we have adopted very quickly!). It was actually a great vacation and I am having an extremely hard time in adopting myself back to normal now hehe! If anybody did not watch "city of god", you guys should...there you all see the favellas which is all around in Rio. I actually never knew that "gecekondu"s were imported globally! And the "christo" statue on top of Rio is magnificent...I might just adopt christianity..he is really welcoming me over there. This must be my destiny!

Hey, I wished you girls were there with us... it reminded so much of our New Orleans -- Canada -- Miami trips!

Hope to have some more of them sometime -- maybe this time with JOEY!

Brown Alumni Join Protest in Ankara

hundreds of thousands of people
shouting "lightbulb Tayyip"
in front of the Anıtkabir last weekend.
For those who may not have heard the event,
it was a protest in opposition to Tayyip Erdoğan's probable presidency.
Slogans also included:
"Al git anani
Kasimpasa imamı"
and collective chantings of songs such as
"Dağ başını duman almış
Gümüş dere durmaz akar"
which created the atmosphere of a sunday picnic.
It was soooooooo crowded...
Hayirlisi insllah.......

soon there will be baby...

yola has a baby in her belly
we shall soon discover
if he will be smelly
or she be pretty...

Why the reproach?

"Bu ne sitem abla?" says Yola.
I was subject to a reproaching email from Tanti, reminding of the blog link and sarcastically commenting for those "of [us] who do not contribute. "
Here I am, here I am. I am so truly sorry it took me a few days to write.

But honey, the office was closed -- Passover and all - you keep forgetting your holidays. We're actually closed today too, but here I am, lonely in my office, contributing to this genius blog. What a great idea, Tanti.

This week I shall post a photo of a quite pregnant lady. And by Thursday afternoon will let you know whether you'll have a little niece or nephew.

love,
me
